Arthur Hayes: "There is no FLOP token" ahead of testnet and airdrop
Arthur Hayes warned on Oct 21 that there is no FLOP token and anyone selling one is a scammer. Flop Labs reposted it. FLOP is only created at genesis in Q1 2027.
Arthur Hayes used his X account on October 21 to warn Flop's followers that the token they keep being offered doesn't exist. "As we get closer to the launch of @flop_labs Testnet and Airdrop in a few weeks please remember: THERE IS NO FLOP TOKEN," he wrote. "Anyone who tries to tell you otherwise is a scammer." The official @flop_labs account reposted it the same morning, and Bloomingbit picked up the warning the same day.
If you're farming the FLOP airdrop, the practical meaning is simple. Any FLOP you see on a DEX, a presale page or a "claim" site right now is not the real thing.
Why can't a FLOP token exist yet?
FLOP is created on Flop's own blockchain at genesis, and that hasn't happened. Flop's timeline FAQ puts mainnet, TGE and token listing in "Q1 2027, tracking to early February," and says "TGE happens at the same time as mainnet, not before it." The same page says "if you see a FLOP token trading anywhere, or a site offering a mint or a claim, it is a scam."
The draft airdrop page also describes the airdrop as earned on testnet, not bought or claimed. The testnet's working target is still Tuesday, November 3, 2026, which the FAQ calls "a target rather than a fixed date." Our FLOP testnet guide tracks that date.
Is this about the Solana "Flop Labs" token?
Hayes didn't name a specific token or contract. His post does cover the Solana token called "Flop Labs" (FLOP) that X accounts have been promoting as the airdrop, which we wrote up in our Solana look-alike scam alert. It also covers anything else carrying the FLOP name before genesis, on any chain.
What should you do?
- Don't buy anything sold as FLOP before mainnet. There's nothing official to buy, and our FLOP token price page explains why no real price exists yet.
- Ignore DMs or replies offering early access, whitelist spots or a FLOP "claim". The FAQ says testnet is open with "no whitelist" and the miner and validator form "is optional."
- Expect AMA and competition prizes after TGE, not before. The FAQ says they are "not paid during testnet."
- Check any link against our official FLOP links and the red flags in our FLOP scam warnings.
