FLOP devnet: faucet, wallets and RPC explained

How the FLOP devnet faucet at faucet.flop.network works, which wallets hold devnet FLOP, what rpc.devnet.flop.network is, and why the devnet earns no airdrop.

Flop's official links page, updated October 23, 2026, lists two devnet tools under the flop.network domain: a faucet at faucet.flop.network and an RPC endpoint at rpc.devnet.flop.network. The same page says the devnet "earns nothing: no rewards and no airdrop weight." This guide explains what each one is, who can use it and how it differs from the testnet, which has a working target of Tuesday, November 3, 2026. We checked both addresses on October 24.

What is the FLOP devnet?

It's a small, disposable network that runs before the public testnet so operators can prove their setup. The timeline FAQ says a first batch of institutional miners and validators has been admitted since the week of October 13, with miners and validators first and agents later. It's "deliberately small: a few dozen institutions", currently about a dozen validators, growing toward roughly fifty before testnet.

Flop's devnet status page describes admission as "administrator-reviewed" and says public operator enrollment is unavailable until the network identity and release are verified. Everything on it can be wiped.

Does the FLOP devnet count toward the airdrop?

No. The FAQ says devnet has no rewards, no airdrop weight and no scoring, and that joining "is not a qualification step for the airdrop." Its only purpose is to have machines working on testnet day one. The first network where anyone can earn is the testnet. Our how to join the FLOP testnet checklist covers what to prepare, and the FLOP airdrop guide covers the rules.

How does the FLOP devnet faucet work?

The faucet at faucet.flop.network is labelled "devnet faucet". When we checked it on October 24 it offered two options:

OptionAmountWhat it asks for
Quick fund25 FLOP "for dev testing"A FLOP address
Verified human500 to 2,000 FLOP "by proof + score"A FLOP address plus proof of personhood

For the larger grant, you connect an EVM wallet that holds a Human Passport or Guild score, or verify your FLOP address with BrightID or Self. The page says funds "still go only to the FLOP address above," so the EVM wallet is only used to prove you're a person.

These are devnet test balances. The FAQ says "there is no devnet token" and nothing on devnet carries forward, so the faucet's FLOP has no value and can't be sold, bridged or converted. Anyone offering to buy or sell devnet FLOP is running a scam.

What wallet works with the FLOP devnet?

FLOP is its own Substrate-based Layer 1, per the technology FAQ, and its accounts are standard Polkadot-SDK accounts with a FLOP address prefix. The faucet page suggests three browser extensions: Polkadot.js, Talisman and SubWallet. It says they support FLOP with SS58 prefix 42 and that Ledger hardware wallets work through them. If you don't have a wallet, the faucet can also generate a throwaway test address.

An EVM wallet such as MetaMask can't sign FLOP transactions, according to the technology FAQ. A link between an EVM address and a FLOP account is designed but not built yet.

What is the FLOP devnet RPC?

rpc.devnet.flop.network is the devnet's RPC address as listed on the official links page. It's meant for software. When we opened it in a browser on October 24 it replied that "POST is required", which is what a JSON-RPC endpoint does when it gets a plain page request.

Two caveats from Flop's own docs:

  • The devnet network profile still shows chain spec, bootnodes and public RPC as "Unavailable", with no verified public values yet.
  • The miner guide says admitted miners get their RPC pool address, DA worker URL and stake sponsor address from the devnet operator in an access bundle. It adds that there is "no public intake path yet".

The timeline FAQ does say agents "can already reach the devnet endpoints, rate-limited". If you're building an agent, that's the use case. If you want to mine or validate, the access bundle is the route.

Can I run a FLOP miner or validator on the devnet?

Only if the devnet operator admits you. The miner guide says miners get access from the devnet operator and that FLOP hasn't published a contact for access requests. The optional miner and validator form at flop.finance is only a contact list, according to the FAQ. On devnet, as on testnet, the network sponsors the stake, so there's nothing to buy.

If you aren't admitted, you aren't behind. Testnet is open to everyone with no whitelist and no cap on miners. The how to mine FLOP and FLOP validator guides cover hardware for each role.

How is the testnet faucet different?

On testnet, agents will draw testnet FLOP from a faucet with per-identity limits and spend it on inference. The FAQ says the claim period, hourly or daily, isn't decided yet. Testnet FLOP has no value either. What counts for the airdrop is the voucher that records verified work, and spent testnet FLOP is how an agent builds that record. Faucet grants on their own don't count. The airdrop checker walks through the agent steps.

How to stay safe

  • Use only the addresses on flop.finance/official. A faucet or RPC on any other domain isn't FLOP's.
  • Never enter a seed phrase on a faucet. The official page says FLOP never asks for one.
  • Use a fresh test address for devnet, not a wallet that holds real funds.
  • Report impersonators to security@flop.finance. More red flags are in our FLOP scams guide, and every verified link is in FLOP official links.

FAQ

What is the FLOP devnet faucet?

faucet.flop.network is Flop's official devnet faucet, listed on flop.finance/official. On October 24, 2026 it offered 25 FLOP for quick dev testing or 500 to 2,000 FLOP for addresses that prove personhood. Devnet FLOP has no value.

Does using the FLOP faucet count for the airdrop?

No. The devnet earns no rewards and no airdrop weight. On testnet, faucet grants alone don't count either; only verified work recorded in vouchers does, such as spending testnet FLOP on inference.

What is rpc.devnet.flop.network?

The devnet's JSON-RPC endpoint, listed on Flop's official links page. It accepts POST requests from software. Flop's docs still list the public RPC as unverified, and admitted miners get their RPC address in an access bundle from the devnet operator.

Which wallet do I need for FLOP?

A Polkadot-compatible wallet. The faucet suggests Polkadot.js, Talisman or SubWallet, using SS58 prefix 42, with Ledger support through those extensions. EVM wallets can't sign FLOP transactions.

Can anyone join the FLOP devnet?

Not as an operator. Devnet admission is administrator-reviewed and limited to a few dozen institutions, with no public intake path yet. Agents can reach devnet endpoints at a limited rate. The public testnet, targeted for November 3, 2026, is open to everyone.
