FLOP tokenomics: supply, block reward, halving and airdrop pool
FLOP tokenomics from Flop's docs: a 96 FLOP block reward halving every 730 days, a 75/10/10/5 split, no hard cap and a 4.4bn genesis airdrop pool (draft).
There is no FLOP token yet. Flop's official links page says nothing is trading and no contract address exists, with mainnet and TGE targeted for Q1 2027. What does exist is a published token design. This guide pulls the numbers from Flop's operator docs at docs.flop.network, mainly the Tokenomics & Supply FAQ (updated October 20, 2026), the tokenomics summary and the key protocol parameters. The docs mark these figures as draft, so treat every number here as subject to change until genesis.

| Long-run tail | 3 FLOP per block forever, about 94.6m FLOP a year |
| Block reward split | 75% miners, 10% validators, 10% agents and brokers, 5% community stakers |
| Developer mint | 8 FLOP per block each to FLOP Labs and the FLOP Foundation, halving with the reward and ending after year 10 |
| Supply at end of year 10 | 18,086,624,000 FLOP |

| Max supply | No hard cap |
What is the FLOP block reward and halving schedule?
The block reward starts at 96 FLOP per one-second block. It halves every 730 days for five halvings, then stays at 3 FLOP per block with no end date, per the tokenomics summary. On top of that, FLOP Labs and the FLOP Foundation each mint 8 FLOP per block. That developer subsidy halves on the same dates and stops entirely from year 11, which makes 112 FLOP of gross emission per block in years one and two.
| Era | Years after genesis | Block reward | Miner pool (75%) | Developer mint |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | 1-2 | 96 FLOP | 72 FLOP | 16 FLOP |
| 1 | 3-4 | 48 FLOP | 36 FLOP | 8 FLOP |
| 2 | 5-6 | 24 FLOP | 18 FLOP | 4 FLOP |
| 3 | 7-8 | 12 FLOP | 9 FLOP | 2 FLOP |
| 4 | 9-10 | 6 FLOP | 4.5 FLOP | 1 FLOP |
| Tail | 11 onward | 3 FLOP | 2.25 FLOP | None |
The docs explain the two-year cycle (Bitcoin uses four) by saying compute supply grows much faster than Bitcoin's did, so a shorter cycle keeps the subsidy falling in step with the network. The first halving lands 730 days after genesis. With genesis "tracking to early February" 2027 per the timeline FAQ, that would be about two years after mainnet. See the Flop roadmap for the launch dates.
How is each FLOP block reward split?
| Share | Recipient | Status |
|---|---|---|
| 75% | Miners, split by verified compute (G_n) | Paid on emission |
| 10% | Active validator set | Paid on emission |
| 10% | Agents and brokers | Minted to a protocol account; distribution not live |
| 5% | Community stakers | Minted to a protocol account; distribution not live |
The summary page says the agent and staker shares were carved out of the miner share, which fell from 90% to 75%, while the validator share stayed put. It also says those two protocol-held shares "are not claimable today" and the rules for paying them out are still being designed. Block rewards and inference fees are fully liquid when emitted, with no lockups, according to the FAQ.
Inference fees are a separate stream. The target split is 85% to the miner that served the session and 15% to validators, and neither FLOP Labs nor the Foundation takes a cut. Our mining profitability guide covers how the miner pool and fees turn into a return, and how to mine FLOP covers hardware.
What is the FLOP total supply? Is there a max supply?
There's no hard cap. Supply follows the emission schedule, and the FAQ gives the total at the end of year 10 as 18,086,624,000 FLOP, made up as follows:
| Bucket | FLOP | Share of year-10 supply |
|---|---|---|
| Miners' block rewards | 8,798,544,000 | 48.6% |
| Genesis airdrop pool | 4,400,000,000 | 24.3% |
| FLOP Labs + FLOP Foundation mint | 1,955,232,000 | 10.8% |
| Validators | 1,173,139,200 | 6.5% |
| Brokers and agents | 1,173,139,200 | 6.5% |
| Community staking rewards | 586,569,600 | 3.2% |
After the fifth halving the 3 FLOP tail adds 94,608,000 FLOP a year, which the FAQ puts at about 0.5% annual inflation from that point. The emission schedule and the airdrop pool are fixed in the runtime at genesis. Changing the tail rate would take an on-chain referendum with 67% approval of votes cast and a 14-day enactment timelock.
How big is the FLOP airdrop pool?
4,400,000,000 FLOP, all earned through testnet participation. The FAQ splits it into 1.2bn for miners, 1.2bn for agents, 1.2bn as the validators' aggregate bond and 0.8bn for the ecosystem reserve. The whole pool is minted at genesis, and 3,760,000,000 is distributed at TGE.
Each cohort unlocks under its own rule, per the FAQ and the conversion doc:
- Miners: 25% liquid at genesis. The other 75% unlocks one FLOP for every FLOP that miner earns on mainnet from block rewards and inference fees, with no time limit.
- Agents: locked and spendable only on compute. Every three FLOP spent on mainnet inference releases one locked FLOP. Tokens never spent stay locked.
- Validators: the top 1,000 testnet validators each get a free 1,200,000 FLOP bond, locked for 24 months, then one validator is released per day over about 1,000 days.
What you do on testnet is recorded as a voucher, and testnet token balances don't convert. The FLOP airdrop guide covers eligibility, and the airdrop checker gives you a role-by-role to-do list.
Is there a team or investor allocation?
The FAQ says no tokens are pre-mined for the team or investors, and there's no team or investor slice inside the genesis pool. There's also no token or equity round: FLOP Labs is funded by Arthur Hayes, with more than two years of runway (see Arthur Hayes and Flop). The team side gets the per-block developer mint, 5.4% of year-10 supply each for FLOP Labs and the Foundation, liquid as it's emitted and counted as circulating from mint.
The 800m ecosystem reserve inside the airdrop pool is held by the Foundation. It releases 20% at genesis and 10% every six months after that, so it is fully out after four years. The FAQ says it pays for creator and referral programmes, builder and security programmes and initial two-way liquidity at listing.
Does FLOP burn fees?
No. The docs say nothing is burned anywhere in the ratified design, covering block rewards, inference fees and transaction fees. The one exception is temporary: the live devnet runtime burns 10% of transaction fees until a runtime upgrade, per the protocol parameters page. Slashed stake goes to the FLOP Foundation account, according to the staking and slashing page. The whitepaper's risk section also notes that FLOP has no buyback and no revenue share (token price guide).
How does FLOP staking work?
- Miners stake a 10,000 FLOP base plus a capacity bond that scales with calibrated compute. The docs warn not to size it from the nominal 0.01 FLOP per GFLOP/s figure, because the live runtime multiplies it, and the constants are still being reconciled.
- Validators join a set capped at 1,000. The validator bond is 1,200,000 FLOP, granted free to the testnet's top 1,000. See the validator guide.
- No delegation. Holders can't stake into a miner or validator for a share of rewards.
- Community staking pool. Holders who don't run hardware will be able to lock FLOP in a pool that shares the 5% staker allocation across seven lock tiers, with no slashing risk. It isn't live yet.
During devnet and testnet the network sponsors the stake, so nobody needs to buy FLOP to take part. Anyone offering to sell you stake or tokens before genesis is running a scam (FLOP scams).
What isn't final yet?
The docs flag several open items: the miner capacity-stake constants, the challenge window, interim fee routing, the payout rules for the agent and staker shares, the testnet-to-mainnet conversion ratio for the inference and agent pools, and the genesis distribution ceremony, which "is not yet wired". The Yellow Paper is the normative spec. We'll update this page when Flop publishes changes.
FAQ
What is the FLOP total supply?
There's no fixed maximum. Flop's docs put total supply at the end of year 10 at 18,086,624,000 FLOP, after which a 3 FLOP block reward continues forever, adding about 94.6m FLOP a year (roughly 0.5% inflation).
What is the FLOP block reward?
96 FLOP per one-second block at genesis, split 75% to miners, 10% to validators, 10% to agents and brokers and 5% to community stakers. It halves every 730 days for five halvings (96, 48, 24, 12, 6, 3) and then stays at 3 FLOP.
When is the first FLOP halving?
730 days (63,072,000 blocks) after genesis. Mainnet is targeted for Q1 2027, tracking to early February, so the first halving would fall about two years after that.
Do FLOP Labs or investors get a token allocation?
There's no pre-mine and no investor allocation, according to Flop's docs. FLOP Labs and the FLOP Foundation each mint 8 FLOP per block on top of the block reward, halving with it and ending after year 10. That totals 10.8% of year-10 supply.
Is FLOP deflationary? Does it burn tokens?
No. The ratified design burns nothing, including transaction fees and inference fees. Supply grows by the emission schedule, with a small permanent tail after year 10.
How much of the FLOP supply goes to the airdrop?
4.4bn FLOP, or 24.3% of year-10 supply. It splits 1.2bn each to miners, agents and validators, plus an 800m ecosystem reserve, and it's earned through verified testnet work.
Can I stake FLOP without running a miner or validator?
Not yet. The docs describe a duration-locked community staking pool sharing 5% of block rewards across seven tiers, but its distribution isn't live. There's no delegated staking into miners or validators.
