Flop vs Nosana: two takes on GPU inference

Flop vs Nosana: Nosana's live Solana GPU marketplace for AI inference (NOS) vs Flop's draft proof-of-useful-inference chain for agents. Hardware, earning, status.

Flop Network and Nosana both pay GPU owners in a token, so people compare them. This page is a neutral, sourced comparison, not investment advice. All Flop figures come from draft documents. The Yellow Paper isn't final yet, and $FLOP hasn't launched. For background, see What is FLOP? and the full comparison of AI compute projects.

Verdict

Nosana and Flop are the closest match on this list: both focus on GPU inference. Nosana is a live marketplace on Solana. Flop is a pre-launch Layer 1 built around agent payments and per-session verification. If you have an NVIDIA GPU and want inference jobs today, Nosana is running. Flop's testnet is still ahead.

Key differences

  1. Chain. Nosana runs on Solana (docs). Flop is its own Substrate-based Layer 1 with AlephBFT finality and no smart contracts.
  2. Buyer. Nosana's clients deploy containers through an API or dashboard. Flop's buyers are agents with a DID that post session requests.
  3. Verification. Flop's draft spells out how inference is verified (TEE, TOPLOC, re-execution, slashing). We couldn't find the equivalent in Nosana's host docs, so we don't characterise it here.
  4. Hardware. Nosana lists specific NVIDIA GPUs and allows one GPU per PC (host guide). Flop recommends 16 GB+ VRAM per GPU unit.

Who each is for

  • Nosana suits NVIDIA GPU owners who want inference jobs on a live network now.
  • Flop suits people who want to take part in its testnet and its draft fair-launch model (airdrop guide).

FAQ

Is Nosana similar to Flop?

Yes, more than most. Both are GPU networks focused on AI inference. Nosana is live on Solana and pays hosts in NOS. Flop is a pre-launch chain where agents pay miners in $FLOP for verified inference.

What GPU do I need for Nosana vs Flop?

Nosana supports specific NVIDIA cards, including the RTX 30, 40 and 50 series, A100 and H100, on native Linux, according to its host docs. Flop recommends a GPU with 16 GB+ VRAM per unit (draft).

Can I earn FLOP today?

No. $FLOP doesn't exist until genesis, targeted for Q1 2027. Verified testnet work is the route to the genesis allocation.
